changes.
Mark made a motion to change the membership dues to coincide with the dues of the SDCTM since that is what is posted on the joint conference website.  It was seconded by James and all voted in favor of the change.   Most dues will remain the same.   However, retired teachers may join/renew  for only $5.    James will see that these changes are corrected in the SDSTA newsletter and pamphlets.
An officers' handbook was discussed.  Micheline will work on this after we review the Constitution and the By laws.
Larry Browning had sent a letter to Micheline with suggestions for speakers for the conference.  After reviewing his suggestions, we decided Larry should contact Dave Vernier for this year's conference and Gerald Walker or Paul Hewitt for the banquet speaker for the 2008 conference.  Larry can check on availability and cost for these speakers.  The SDCTM will supply the banquet speaker for the 2007 conference.   Micheline will also contact Fred Henderson to speak at the conference on the Biodiesel industry and Richard Sherman from Manderson, SD who does workshops on ethnobotany.   She believes that both of these speakers would do a great job at the conference at a minimal cost.
The Constitution and By Laws were discussed and the following changes were suggested:
Constitution changes:
Article IV    Section 2       Change to .............a Newsletter Editor and a Past President.    This will eliminate a separate position for NSTA Liaison.
Bylaw Changes:
Article V    Section 2       Add: The President will be the NSTA Contact Person.  The President must be a member of NSTA and maintain contact with the National Science Teachers Association.
Article V Section 5:    Add:   The treasurer will maintain an updated membership list.
Article VI    Section 1:   Cross out membership as the board feels that all members of the organization should continually be recruiting new members so a

membership committee is not necessary.
Article VI    Section 5:    This will be eliminated if the South Dakota Junior Academy of Science no longer exists.
Article VI    Section 6:   The President shall appoint such other committees and/or liaisons as the work of the Association demands.
Article VI    Section 7: Change fall meeting to spring meeting.
Article VII    Section 1:  Change fall business meeting to spring business meeting.
Article VII    Section 2:  Change fall business meeting to spring business meeting.
Article VII    Section 4:   Eliminate NSTA liaison and from the first line so it reads: With the exception of the Newsletter Editor,.........
Article IX   Section 1: Change Fall meeting to Spring meeting.
Article X   Section 1:   Change August to January so it reads:   The fiscal year of this organization shall end as of thirty-first of January of each year.
Article XI    Section 3: Change twenty-five members to five members.
Article XIV   Section 1: Change to read: In the event of termination or dissolution of the Association, the Executive Board, at their discretion, shall distribute the remaining assets of the Association to a nonprofit SD science organization.
These changes will be submitted to the SDSTA for a vote.
Molly suggested that we email those whose membership has lapsed to remind them to pay their dues.  Molly feels that most people need to be reminded when their membership is about to expire.   Those not attending the conference in February frequently forget to pay their membership dues.  Molly and James will take care of this.
The tentative dates for the fall joint conference meetings are November 4 and December 2nd.   Micheline and others will attend November 4th and President-elect Ramona and others will attend December 2nd.
Micheline will also check on getting more pens for the conference as they went over very well at the last conference.  The pens were presented as a "thank-you" to conference presenters.
Mark made a motion to adjourn and Marcy seconded the motion.
   Meeting adjourned at 4:40 p.m.
